Could someone please help me with this problem? I'm very confused and I don't even know where to start. I tried to do it on my own, but I think I'm missing something:(
A ship leaves port at noon and travels at a bearing of 214°. The ship’s average rate of speed is 15 miles per hour.
Describe the location of the ship at 2:30 p.m. by writing a vector in component form.
The component form of the vector representing the ship at 2:30 p.m. is approximately ⟨ , ⟩.
From noon to 2:30 is 2 1/2 hrs 2 1/2 hr x `15 = 37.5 miles at bearing 214o
the 'x' component will be 37.5 m cos 214 = ~ -31 miles
the 'y' component will be 37.5 m sin 214 = ~ -21 miles
Thank you so much! I see what I did wrong. I got the 37.5 part, but after that, I was beyond confused! I understand a lot better:)
So, would that mean the ship was 31 miles to the south and 21 miles to the west of where the ship left port?
I graphed the point, and that's what my conclusion was, I just want to be sure!
Thank you again xx
