Mrs.Williams is going to purchase a plastic cover for her outdoor fish pond. The area of the fish pond is 25 meter squared .However, she must purchase a cover that is 12% more than the pond are in order to cover the entire edges of the pond. The plastic cover cost $4.75 per square meter. About how much will Mrs.Williams spend for the plastic cover?

First you must calculate how large the cover must be. The area of the fish pond is given, so to get the area of the cover, you need to multiply 1.12 (100+12%) to 25 m2. This is because the cover needs to be larger, and so to add 12% of the cover's size onto what is already there, you would need to add the "what is already there", or 100%. Now if you calculate this, you get 28 m2 for how large your cover must be. The cost per square meter is $4.75, so the cost for the entire cover is 4.75*28, which is $133.
