(2m +1) 2 could be taken as 2m + 1 times 2 or 2m +1 to the power of 2 or "Squared" it depends on which. For the first you make a box. on the side you put 2 and on top you put 2m and +1. 2 times 2m = 4m, 2 times 1 = 2. so you get 4m + 2 and that is your simplified answer. For the other it would be 2m times 2m which = 4m(2) squared. +1 = 4m squared +1 as your simplified answer. Correct me if i'm wrong for the second one. :3 hope this helped

All you have to do is distribute the number into the parenthesis.

Whats 2m2? = 4m

Then, whats 12? = 1

(2m+1)2 = 4m+1

Hoped that simplified things out
