You do this

0.08*5=0.4

Like Alexa said

For percent,  you do this

If the number has tens, like 11,  then the decimal is 0.11

If it is only ones,  like 8,  then it is 0.08

And if it is hundreds or bigger,  like 747,  then it is 7.47

Oh ok well this is how I did it...: first I divided 5 by 100 which equals 0.05 then I multiplied 0.05 by 8 and got 0.4!

Yeah you are both right but I do like Happy's working better.

 

This is because you are finding   8% of 5 and i think it is best to change the words into a number sentence as precisely as possible.

Now 8% is 8/100  (or 0.08)   and 'of' means multiply.  So the question becomes

 

8/100 * 5
