3(x+4)-12=4.6+2x = x=(23/5)

WORK

3(x+4)-12=4 3/5+2x

3x+12-12=4 3/5+2x

3x=2x+4 3/5

x=4 3/5

3(x+4) - 12 = {4 3\over 5} + 2x

\(3(x+4) - 12 = {4 3\over 5} + 2x\\ 12x+12 - 12 = {4 3\over 5} + 2x\\ 12x = {4 3\over 5} + 2x\\ 12x-2x = {4 3\over 5} + 2x-2x\\ 10x = {4 3\over 5} \\ x={4 3\over {5*10}} \\ x={4 3\over {50}} \\\)

I do not remember seeing that \over command in LaTex before.  Thanks.

Now I have just got to remember if :)

Melody, I wish for none of this to be offensive, but I think you have done your maths incorrectly. 3(x+4)=3x+12, not 12x+12. Guest, 4 3/5=4.6, or four and three-fifths, not 4*(3/5)(in words four times, in parentheses, three divided by five.)

I think by \over they ment /, as in a fraction.

rarinstraw, CPhill and ClaraOswald

Thanks rarinstraw and Chris, my second step is most certainly incorrect.

{4 3\over 5}

Clara, this is unclear, you are right to think that it looks like it means   4+3/5     BUT

it is written in LaTex and it does really mean     43/5      like I put :)

Copy it and then open  LaTex using the button above button.

Now paste it in press enter and see what the output looks like  :)

3(x+4) - 12 = 4 3\ 5 + 2x

3x+12=4 3/5+2x

x+12=4 3/5

x=-7 2/5
