whats the numerical coefficient of the simplified term involving x-7 of ((x+1)/2x)9 Show the work ?

I got this far...

(1/2)(1/2x)9

(1/2)9-7(1/2x)7

(1/2)2(1/2x)7

thats as far as i got

Thankyou sportlover,

The partial answer you have provided me with is useful.  It shows me you have tried to do it and gives me an idea of what level you are at and the problems that you are having.

One little thing I would like to point out first is that 1/2x actually means 1/2*x=(1/2)*(x/1)=x/2

whereas what you actually meant was 1/(2x)

Now you need the general term which will be

$$9Cr\times (0.5)^r \times \left(\dfrac{1}{2x}\right)^{9-r}$$

Now you need to simplify this so it is something * some power of x

Then you need to put the power = -7 and solve the equation for r

Remember that r has to be a whole number (integer ) between 0 and 9 inclusive. If it is not then the x-7 term will not exist!

substitute the answer that you get back into the general term to get the x-7 term.

Now you try to do this.

so plug the -7 into the r spot?

no, you have to separate the 1/2 from the 1/x first.

you need to geti it in the form   something1 * x something2

That is an x not a times sign.
