Why will this program and others not give a straight answer when I try to calculate 19 trillion (19000000000) by 115,227,000? All I get is variations of 164-point-hugely long number. I don't know how to translate that. I want a real number. I am trying to calculate how much each American household (115,227,000 of them) owes of the $19 trillion debt.

that is a real number. round to the nearst hundreth place to get the cents. that would be each american owing $164 and 82 cents. if somehow every american (which not sure it includes the illegal immigrants and children) payed that money back to the government, the debt wouldn't exist

Just divide the National debt by number of households

[1.9 X 10^13] / 115,227,000 =$164,891.91 National debt per household.

19 trillion dollars=1.9 X 10^13.  But your number is written as:$19,000,000,000), which is 19 billion!!!. You need to add another 3 zeros or multiply you number by 1,000 to get 19 trillion.

(19000000000) by 115,227,000

19000000000/115227000

19000000000/115227000 = 164.8919090143803102

19000000000000/115227000 = = 164891.9090143803101704

I just did it on the web2 calc and got the answer/s straight off   ://
