Why?

Hi Matt,

I know that you are concerned that people are just using this site to get their homework done for them and I agree that many people do abuse this site by using it in this way.

BUT

Some people do learn a lot of mathematics from this site.  Some use it as an valuable learning tool.

These are the people we are here for.

 Most answerers have a genuine love of mathematics and they want to facilitate learning and interest in others where ever they can.  

The answerers are generous people who want to share their time and expertise generously with those who want to learn.

Personally I often prefer answerers to give hints and half answers, especially if there is a real suggestion that they are doing someone's homework.  We should be facilitating learning not doing people's homework for them.
