126 = 2*3*3*7

90 = 2*3*3*5

 

a.  2*3*3 is common to both, so the longest length of square possible will have length 2*3*3 = 18.  

b.  There will be 5 of them in one direction and 7 in the other. 5*7 = 35 squares.
