Let the bigger number =G

Let the smaller number =L

 

G - L = 1

G*L =10, solve for G, L

G = 1/2 (1 + sqrt(41)) ≈ 3.70156, and:

L = 1/2 (sqrt(41) - 1) ≈ 2.70156, and:

G = 1/2 (1 - sqrt(41)) ≈ -2.70156 and:

L = 1/2 (-1 - sqrt(41)) ≈ -3.70156
