During 2 consecetive days Julia eats 20% of apples in her bag.If at the end of the second day there are 32 apples in her bag, how many did she have the first day?

Let N be the number that Julia started with.......then  we have that.....

 

N(.80)(.80)   = 32

 

N (.64)  = 32     divide both sides by .64

 

N = 50

 

Check....at the end of the first day, she ate 20% of 50   = 10....so there are 40 left

 

At the end of the second day, she ate 20% of 40  = 8......there are 32 left

Again in my work sheet i do not have 32, the worksheet is in another language. So maybe i translated it incorrectly!

Actually, buubleman, CPhill explained the N = the number of apples Julia started it.

 

So... the answer is not 32, but...

 

N=50
