Professor Terrill has several tarantulas and frogs. She counts 104 legs and 80 eyes in the room. How many of each creature does she have?

Hi!

This is a double equation thing(I don't know the name)

Let x = number of tarantulas

Let y = number of frogs

If frogs have 4 legs and 2 eyes, and tarantulas have 8 legs and 8 eyes, then we can set up two equations, one for the legs and one for the eyes.

For the eyes:

8x + 2y = 80

For the legs:

8x + 4y = 104.

Now, we combine the equations.

8x + 2y = 80

-

8x + 4y = 104

------------------------

-2y = -24

/-2        /-2

-------------------

y = 12

y represents the number of frogs, so there are 12 frogs.

I think you can take the rest from here. :)

Hope this helps!
