1.  4x2 + 8x + 4 can be written as 4(x+1)2 or  (x+1)2/(1/2)2

 

2. 25y2 -100y can be written as 25(y-2)2 - 100  or (y-2)2/(1/5)2 - 102

 

3. Using the above the original equation can be written as:  (x+1)2/(1/2)2 + (y-2)2/(1/5)2 = 102

or  (x+1)2/(1/20)2 + (y-2)2/(1/50)2 = 1

 

4.  So h = -1;  k = 2;  a = 1/20;  b = 1/50
