your local rollerblade rink will rent blades to you for $14 for three hours and $29 for eight hours. Assume that the price increase is constant depending upon the number of hours the blades are rented.

How do i write an expression for this? Thank you in advance.

The price increase per hour after 3 hours =

[29 - 14] / 5  =   15/ 5  = $3

So.....we can write this as a piecewise function

C  =   $14,      0 < h ≤ 3

          $[14 + 3 ceiling(h - 3)],  3 < h ≤ 8

Where C is he total cost in dollars  and h is in hours  ....the second function needs some explaining....a "ceiling" function, in this case,  takes any partial hours and rounds them up to the next whole integer....example..... if you keep the skates for 5.3 hrs....the ceiling function rounds this up to the next integer, 6, and you are charged     $[14 + 3 (6 -3) ]  = $ [14 + 3(3)] =  $23

cool cool cool
