7x + 8 = 9x + 5  subtract 7x from both sides   and subtract 5 from both sides

3 = 2x      divide both sides by 2

3/2 = x

Check

7(3/2) + 8 = 9(3/2) + 5

21/2 + 8 = 27/2 + 5

8-5 = 27/2 - 21/2

8-5 = 6/2

3 = 3
