We can solve this by spliting the trapazoid into one rectangle, and two triangles of exact same area.
First lets start of witht he triangles, we know that the area of a triangle is\(\frac{1}{2}* Base * height = area\)
We can see that both triangles have a base of 4 inches, and a height of 14 inches
So we can plugh that in our equation. \(\frac{1}{2}*\frac{4}{1} *\frac{14}{1} = \frac{56}{2} = 28\)
and we can multiply that by 2 which is 56
Finally all we have to check is the rectangle it's 14 inches long we can see and it 10 inches wide and we know the formula for an area for a rectangle is \(Lengh * With = area\)
so \(14 * 10 = 140\) So we have 140 now and all we need to do is add it to the 56 we originally had.
Which leaves us with 196 so you were correct : )
