A publisher claims that the average salary paid at its company is \$37,500 but it could differ as much as \$4,500. Write and solve an absolute value inequality to determine the range of salaries at this company.

My option's

|x − 37500| ≤ 4500; The salaries range from \$33,000 to \$42,000

|x − 37,500| ≤ 4500; The salaries are less than \$33,000 or greater than \$42,000.

|x − 37500| ≥ 4500; The salaries range from \$33,000 to \$42,000

|x − 37,500| ≥ 4500; The salaries are less than \$33,000 or greater than \$42,000.

I'm having trouble figuring thes eout in general and what the question ask's may I please have an explanitory explination on what is going on?

OK, HL.....

The salaries could be as much as \$4500 less than \$37,500  which means that the salaries could be as little as

\$37,500 -\$4500  = \$33,000

Or..

The salaries could be as much as  \$4500 more  than \$37,500  = \$37,500 + \$4500  =  \$42,000

So

The salries could range from \$33,000 to \$42000   and  lx - 37,5000 l ≤ \$4500   is correct  [ the first answer ]
