This question is trivial but I am wondering how you would set up and solve a more difficult question like this using modular arithmetic  ??

This is the second occurance of a mysterious guest today.

The first time I thought it was Bertie.

This time I suspect it is Nauseated, but I am not sure either time.

Nauseated would usually identify himself so maybe it is Bertie both times ://

Another way is to multiply both sides by the smallest common denominator which is 15

\(\frac{x+4}{3}-1=\frac{3(x-1)}{5}\\ \frac{x+4}{3}-\frac{3}{3}=\frac{3(x-1)}{5}\\ \frac{x+4-3}{3}=\frac{3(x-1)}{5}\\ \frac{x+1}{3}=\frac{3(x-1)}{5}\\ \frac{15}{1}\times\frac{x+1}{3}=\frac{15}{1}\times\frac{3(x-1)}{5}\\ \frac{5}{1}\times\frac{x+1}{1}=\frac{3}{1}\times\frac{3(x-1)}{1}\\ 5(x+1)=9(x-1)\\ \)

and you can check and finish :)

there is only 24    8 year olds so the biggest number of teams is 24

so there will be 24 teams with 1 eight year old, 4 nine year olds and 2 ten year olds 

And there will be 12 lonely 10 year olds left over.
