Very interesting question. No high level maths required.
This question was posted a couple of days ago.

I think it is really interesting. It looks much more difficult than it really needs to be.

Your first answer was correct.
You could say that density = 5*10
0
but since 10
0
is just 1 it is not needed.
density = 5 g/cm
3
is in scietntific notation just as is.

Well, if it was solid it would have some bouancy because of its shape so I think it would tend to float.
I just did an experiment in my kitchen.
I filled up a jug with water,
then I filled up a little glass with water and dropped in a little food colouring.
You need very little food colouring to make the water go a rich colour.
so, I figure that the density of the coloured water must be almost identical to the density of the tap water.
Now I put just a drop of the coloured water into the jug.
It broke the water tension when it dropped, so it did go a little under the surface.
then it settled and stayed right where it started.
Eventually after a considerable period of time, it dispersed/disolved and became one with the water.
Anyway, my conclusion is that if there is no bouyancy effect than the introduced material would stay at the level where it started.

I just had a thought, bones are not solid.
Maybe old bones are hollow, I am not sure.
If 1.7 is the density of the bone part and does not include the middle then a full bone may well be able to float.

I googled it because I don't have a spare bone lying about to check for real. That is what the link above is.
The bone density is 1.7g/cm
3
,
The water density is 1g/cm
3
, (to 1 or even 2 significant figures : 0.99821)
the bone is quite a lot denser than water so normally I think it would sink.
It can only float is it is the right shape to promote bouyancy.
The articals I read said that human bones do float but I think they may have been refering to salt water which is denser.
