Bonnie withdrew $1,200 from her savings account. She spent 1/5 of the money on travel arrangements. She spent 2/3 of the remaining amount at the hardware store. Let's take this step by step

If she spent 1/5 of the $1200 on travel arrangements, then she must have had 4/5ths of this left.....so 1200 x 4/5  = $960

Then....she spent 2/3rds of this at the hardware store... so, she must have had 1/3  of $960 left = $320

Now....call the amount she spent for lunch = L

So....$320 - L = $300.50    rearrange this and we have

$320 - $300.50  = L   = $19.50  ... and that's what she spent on lunch
