Simplifying on the left, we have

1- x + 2 = 6 + 2x    combining like terms gives us

3 - x = 6 + 2x        add x to both sides

3 = 6  + 3x            subtract 6 from both sides

-3 = 3x                  divide both sides by 2

- 1 = x

Don't just take my word for it !! Check it for yourself in the original equation to see that it's correct!!
