10-(2y-6)-y=?. You have to set your equation to equal 0, like this:

Solve for y:
16-3 y=0

Subtract 16 from both sides:
(16-16)-3 y=-16

16-16=0:
-3 y=-16

Divide both sides of -3 y=-16 by -3:
(-3 y)/(-3)=(-16)/(-3)

(-3)/(-3)=1:
y=(-16)/(-3)

The sign of (-16)/(-3) is positive, so (-16)/(-3) = 1×16/3:
Answer: |  y=16/3
