10 exp 3 equals 1000.  why does my calculator say 10000

I think you pressed 10*exp3  instead of just just exp3

 

I am pretty sure that is what you would have done.

If calculator can not answer simple equation how can it be trusted to assist in a more complicated equation

Maybe you forgot to clear it before you put the problem in.

Or maybe you put it in wrong.

Or the calculator could be messing up because it's in a different mode. (Such as radian and degree) If you leave them in radian mode (I think) then you can get crazy answers. It's one of the two, I'm fairly sure you're supposed to leave them in degree mode though.
