12-(x+3)=10

 

12 - x - 3 =10

9 - x = 10 subtract 9 from both sides.

-x =10 - 9

-x = 1 multiply both sides by -1

x = - 1

To solve this you would have to first distribute the 12 to the x and the number three.

 

12 - (x + 3) = 10

12x + 36 = 10

 

Then use inverse operations to solve:

 

12x + 36 - 36 = 10 - 36

12x = -26

12x/12 = -26/12

x = -2.1666666666666667

 

I'm currently learning this so this is most likely incorrect. If you put this equation in the calculator you will get:

 

12 - (x + 3) = 10 = x=-1
