+118673 1984 by George Orwell is a very famous book Hayley and Coldplay. It is dated now as I think it was written in 1948. (that might be wrong, I just have that in my head)
Anyway it is only a little book and very readable and older people refer to it ALL the time. It is quite thought provoking. It is written about a possible future where the gov't know all and people are very controlled. SOME of the things in the book have become reality. Others, not so much.
If you read at all I think that you should put this one on your list :)
