To solve the question, change every denominator into the lowest denominator.

So, $$2\frac{3}{8}+\frac{1}{2}+7\frac{3}{4}=2\frac{3}{8}+\frac{4}{8}+7\frac{6}{8}$$.

$$2\frac{3}{8}=2\frac{3}{8}$$

$$\frac{1}{2}=\frac{4}{8}$$

$$7\frac{3}{4}=7\frac{6}{8}$$

So, our lowest common denominator is $${\mathtt{8}}$$.

For now, let's ignore the whole numbers. So, we only add the fractions.

$$\frac{3}{8}+\frac{4}{8}+\frac{6}{8}=\frac{13}{8}$$

Now, make $${\frac{{\mathtt{13}}}{{\mathtt{8}}}}$$ into a whole number.

$$\frac{13}{8}=1\frac{5}{8}$$

Now, let's add the whole numbers.

$${\mathtt{2}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{\mathtt{7}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{\mathtt{1}} = {\mathtt{10}}$$

Now, combine the whole answer together and they make the answer.

$$Answer: 10\frac{5}{8}$$ is the answer in simplest form.

Hope it helps!

Excellent answer Dragon - You really are learning.

I am very impressed!

Double thumbs up from me and Chris.

Now I want to see more really good post like this and a lot less others.

Here is another LaTex pointer.

\\means start a new line, I usually use \\\\ because I like my lines to be well spaced.

So you could have written this without going in and out of LaTex lots of times.

Okay. Thanks Melody!

How do use \\\? I really don't understand that part.

Thanks for the points, btw!

Have a look at Ninja's code here

http://web2.0calc.com/questions/which-best-explains-why-the-equation-4x-5-4x-1-has-no-solutions-a-the-equation-has-a-variable-on-both-sides-b-the-equation-is-true-for-a#r3

See how he puts \\ at the end of most of the lines.  This means start a new line.

Just pressing enter when you write LaTex means nothing - it has no impact on the ouput.

I often use \\\\ because I like double spacing of lines.
