This is how you can do your question without a calculator.
$$(2.4 \times 10^{-9}) (4.0 \times 10^{23}) \\\\
=2.4\times4 \times 10^{-9}\times 10^{23}\\\\
=2.4\times4 \times 10^{-9}\times 10^{23}\\\\
=9.2\times 10^{-9+23}\\\\
=9.2\times 10^{14}\\\\$$
(2.4 x 10^-9) (4.0 x 10^23)
= (2.4*10^-9)*(4.0* 10^23)
= 960000000000000
= $$\mathbf{9.6*10^{14}}.$$
