2 to the power of 0

2¹ = 2

2² = 4

2³ = 8

2⁴ = 16

2⁵ = 32

... and so on.

Likewise,

2^-1 = 1/2

2^-2 = 1/4

2^-3 = 1/8

2^-4 = 1/16

2^-5 = 1/32

... and so on.

See the pattern? Every number to the power of zero ends up being itself divided by itself, which always equals 1.

Remember that ......   2ⁿ / 2ⁿ   =  2^n-n  = 2⁰   but, as LambLamb points out...   2ⁿ/2ⁿ  = 1
