21 = 2

22 = 4

23 = 8

24 = 16

25 = 32

... and so on.

 

Likewise,

 

2-1 = 1/2

2-2 = 1/4

2-3 = 1/8

2-4 = 1/16

2-5 = 1/32

... and so on.

 

See the pattern? Every number to the power of zero ends up being itself divided by itself, which always equals 1.

Remember that ......   2n / 2n   =  2n-n  = 20   but, as LambLamb points out...   2n/2n  = 1

 

So......   20  = 1
