Oh I see the problem - I am glad that you have been persistant :)

this problems is

20÷2(5+5)

 

$$=20\div2\times(5+5)$$

parentheses first

$$=20\div2\times10$$

Now, division and multiplication are equally important. The division comes first so you do it first.

$$=10\times10$$

now multiply

$$=100$$

Yes. If you add 5+5 first, and then multiply by 2, don't you get 20?

My calculator gives me 1 when I ener this directly. What gives?
