3(2y+3) = 5y+9       distribute the "3" across the terms in the parentheses

6y + 9   = 5y + 9      subtract 9 ftom both sides

6y = 5y                     subtract 5y from both sides

6y - 5y = 0               factor out y

y(6 - 5)  = 0

y*1  = 0

y = 0
