Dividing can be replaced by multiplying by the reciprocal.

The reciprocal of 2 is 1/2.

3/4 ÷ 2  =  3/4 x 1/2  =  (3 x 1) / (4 x 2)  =  3/8

Another way of looking at this problem:

Dividing by 2 means taking one-half of it.

One-half of a fourth is an eighth; so one-half of 3/4 is 3/8.
