Let the unknown number be x:

(-3/4)·x = -1                                To remove the -3/4, since it is times x, divide by -3/4:

(-3/4)·x ÷ (-3/4)  =  -1 ÷ (-3/4)

  x  =  4/3

Note:   -1 ÷ (-3/4)  =  -1 x (4/-3)  =  4/3
