If the problem is asking you to find x then I can glady help you.

You start off with:

3(x - 6) - 8x = -2 + 5(2x + 1)

Now the best move here would to be distributing 3 and 5:

3x - 18 - 8x = -2 + 10x + 5

Now just add like terms:

-5x - 18 = 10x + 3

Subtract 3 and add 5x on both sides:

-21= 15x

Divide both sides by 15:

x= -21/15

Simplify:

x= -7/5
