A spherical soap bubble lands on a horizontal wet surface and forms a hemisphere of the same volume. Given the radius of the hemisphere is 3 cm, find the radius of the original bubble.

Volume of  the  hemisphere   =  

 

(1/2) (4/3)  pi ( 3)^3    =   18 pi   cm^3

 

To  find  the  radius  of  the  original bubble

 

18 pi   = ( 4/3) pi  ( r)^3

 

18 ( 3/4)  =  r^3

 

(27/2)  =  r^3

 

cube root   ( 27 / 2)  =  r     =     3  / cube root 2    cm  ≈   2.38 cm
