I assume you want to factor this.....so we have

3x^2-3x-36 take out the common factor (3)

3(x^2 - x -12) Now, we're looking for two numbers that multiply to -12 and sum to -1......-4 and 3 seem to work......so we have

4(x - 4) (x + 3)

And there you go.......
