4 + -5

Think of negative numbers as cold numbers and positive numbers as hot numbers.

4+-5

If you add cold air into a room then the room gets colder (which is negative).    so  

+ - can be replaced with -

4+-5  is the same as 4-5=-1

The answer is -1.
