First, combine like terms. This makes the equation much simpler.

 

-4 = -7/4x - 7 + 9/4x

-4 = 2/4x - 7

3 = 2/4x

 

Then, divide by 2/4 (multiply by 2)

 

3*2 = (2)2/4x

 

6=x

This si the question that GoldenLeaf solved - the x is on the top, NOT on the bottom.   

-4=-7/4x-7+9/4x

-4=(-7/4)x-7+(9/4)x

That is a good answer GoldenLeaf. 

always leave it with the pronumeral on the left
