4X/2 = 4

Multiply both sides by 2, to get 4X on its own.

4X = 8

Divide both sides by 4 (the opposite opperation of 4X, which is 4 times X) to get X on its own.

X = 2

Another way to solve this is to simplify the fraction, by dividing 4X and 2 by 2, which equals 2X/1, or 2X.

Now 2X = 4, and by dividing both sides by 2, we see that X = 2

We can check our answer by substituting it into the equation:

4*2/2 = 4

By cancelling out the 2's we can see X=2 because 4=4

Hope this helps :)
