Distribute the -5 and 5 and combine like terms:

(-5*1 - (-5*5x)) + ((5*-8x) - 5*2) = -12x

Multiplying all of it out:

-5 - (-25x) - 40x - 10 = -12x

Combine like terms and keep track of negatives:

-5 + 25x - 40x - 10 = -12x

-15 - 15x = -12x

Add 15x to both sides:

-15 = 3x

Divide both sides by 3:

-15/3 = x.

x = -15/3

x = -5.
