$$5x+4+2*1=5x+4+2=5x+6$$

Was this your intended question or should there be a + or a - in the second bracket?

melody , i think anonymous is right because as there is 5x so 2x can also be the same ! but anonymous i think ur way wasnt a bit correct !

(5x+4)+(2x1)

so i assume this will be done like this ,

5x-4+2x

=5x+2x-4

=7x-4

so thats the answer but if that 2"x" is really multiplication sign or a variable , then pls let me know !

It depends what is meant by the question Rosala.

2x1 doesn't make make a lot of sense.  It can be interpreted as 2 multiplied by 1 like I did

or

it can be interpreted as 2x*1 which is 2x as our anonymous friend did.

I really think that something was left out of the question.
