$$\begin{array}{rlll}
6(-1-y)&=&19\\\\
6(-1-y)&=&19\qquad &$next Divide both sides by 6$\\\\
-1-y&=&\frac{19}{6}\qquad &$next add 1 to both sides$\\\\
-y&=&\frac{19}{6}+1\\\\
-y&=&\frac{25}{6}\qquad &$next mult both sides by -1 $\\\\
y&=&\frac{-25}{6}\\\\
y&=&-4\frac{1}{6}\\

\end{array}$$

$${\mathtt{6}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}\left({\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\mathtt{1}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\mathtt{y}}\right) = {\mathtt{19}} \Rightarrow {\mathtt{y}} = {\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\frac{{\mathtt{25}}}{{\mathtt{6}}}} \Rightarrow {\mathtt{y}} = -{\mathtt{4.166\: \!666\: \!666\: \!666\: \!666\: \!7}}$$

Happy I am impressed by how well you use the site calc but students need to learn how to do these by hand.

Why don't you learn how to do them by hand and then you can teach others.
