6/2(1+2)

A ton of controversy over such a basic equation.

Even if we added the 1 and 2, first, we still have

6/2(3)  ...but the order of operations dictates that we perform multiplications and divisions at the same level of precedence as we encounter them from left to right....

And  since we encounter the division first, we have 6/2 = 3

And then

3(3) = 9

My advice??? ...Don't rely too much on those "intelligent friends and associates" for a lot of heavy-duty math guidance .... ( LOL..!!!)

Mmmmmmm....this doesn't seem to be too controversial, at all........

6/2(1+2)

3(1+2)  =

3(3)  =

9

Exactly what I said but some very intelligent friends and associates feel as if it is worked out as 6/2(1+2)... 1+2=3 making it 6/2(3)....... 2(3)=6 making it 6/6...... which equals 1..... makes sense in certain situations but I don't believe this is the one lol
