Let x be the age of the daughter.....then 4x is the age of the mother

And in 12 years, we will have

(4x + 12) = 2(x + 12)  simplify

4x + 12 = 2x + 24    rearrange

2x = 12   divide by 2

x = 6

So...her mother is 4x = 4(6) = 24

Let the today's age of the mother be M and the daughter be D

M       =4D

M+12=2(D+12)

subtract

0 -12=4D-2(D+12)

   -12 = 4D-2D-24

    -12= 2D-24

    12=2D

     D=6

      M=4*6=24

the daughter is 6 and the mother is 24
