A recipe called for 2 1/3 cups of flour and 1 1/4 cups of sugar. If the recipe is tripled, how much flour and sugar will be needed?

We need 3 times as much of each....so......

2 + 1/3 = 7/3    and   1 + 1/4   = 5/4     and we have

3(7/3)  = 7 cups of flour

3(5/4)   = 15/4  = 3 + 3/4   cups of sugar
