Hi guys, I'm back, did u miss me? I'm just kidding. Ok guys my little bro is hving some difficulty answering a maths ques, and I can't seem 2 figure it out either so here it is:

A square has an area of 25cm2. What is the length and breadth of the square?

Hi Eloise,

Have you ever thought about why 74 is just 7 to the power of 4 BUT

72  is not usually called 7 to the power of 2?    72  is usually referred to as 7 squared.

cm2  literally means a square that is 1cm by 1cm big.

The area of a flat shap is the number of SQUARES that you can fit inside the shape.

So if a square has an area of 25 cm2   Then it must look like this.

You can count the little squares.  Each one is 1cm by 1cm in size so each one is 1cm^2

There are 25 of them.

 

the area of a square is Length x Length 

 

LL=L2L2=25L2=25L=5cm

If it is a square then just take the squareroot of the area to find the side length. It is the squareroot of 25 so the sides are 5 cm.
