A telemarketer calls people and tries to sell them a subscription to a daily newspaper. On 18% of her calls, there is no answer or the line is busy. She sells subscriptions to 8% of the remaining calls. For what proportion of calls does she make a sale?

Let's supppose  that   100  people were called

Then  18  calls resulted in a  no answer  or a busy signal

So   100 -  18  = 82  calls were completed

So   8%  of these result  in a sale   = .08 * 82   = 6.56 calls

So   6.56  / 100   =     6.56 % resulted in a sale
