w^2-4 w+11 = 0

Subtract 11 from both sides:
w^2-4 w = -11

Add 4 to both sides:

Take the square root of both sides:
w-2 = i sqrt(7) or w-2 = -i sqrt(7)

Add 2 to both sides:
w = 2+i sqrt(7) or w-2 = -i sqrt(7)

Add 2 to both sides:
Answer: |w = 2+i sqrt(7)        or        w = 2-i sqrt(7)
