*the continental shelves match together like jigsaw puzzles indicating that they were once joined.
*The fauna and flora of the adjoining 'jigsaw' peices are very similar and genetically it can be shown that they have common ancestors.
*There is also similarities between rocks and fossile of previously adjoining continents.
* The rift valleys such as the one that runs the length of the Atlantic ocean is suggestive that the two plates are pulling apart
* High mountains such as the Himalayan mountains have formed where two plates have collided and pushed each other up.
