+118658 What is the standard deviation?
There is a formula for this (2 actually) but
standard deviation is a measure of how far a score deviates from the average.
ex
Say all your class members heights were recorded and the mean and standard deviation was calculated.
If I was told you were 2 standard deviations below the mean (and I was told nothing else) then I would know that you were quite short.
Where as if you were 3 standard deviations above the mean I would know that you were really tall !
