10x^3 + 20x^2 + 2x + 4       factor by grouping

10x^2 ( x + 2)  + 2 ( x + 2)

(x + 2) ( 10x^2 + 2)

(x + 2) * 2( 5x^2 + 1)

2 ( 5x^2 + 1) ( x + 2)

Group the first two together and the second two together. For the first group, factor out 10x2 and for the second group, factor out 2.

10x3 + 20x2 + 2x + 4

10x3 + 20x2           2x + 4

10x2 (x + 2)         2 (x + 2)

Now the factors in the parenthases are the same.

(10x2 + 2) (x + 2)

2(5x2 + 1) (x + 2)
